80% of People who want to become homeowners say that they don't have the means
Those who dream of buying a home are often held back by high prices and insufficient funds. They wish that there was more encouragement for would-be homeowners, and would appreciate assistance and more information on financing or calculating the maximum amount they are able to pay.
This information, published today in a report from the Swiss Confederation, is based on a study carried out by the School of Management and Law at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), in partnership with the Swiss Federal Housing Office (OFL), the Swiss Homeowner's Association, the Fédération Romande Immobilière [Real Estate Federation of French-speaking Switzerland] and Raiffeisen Switzerland.
A common dream at a certain stage of life
46% of respondents between 30 and 49 years old are actively looking to purchase a home right now. Only a quarter of those under 30 are actively looking, although buying a home is a long-term goal for over half of them.
Why do they dream of becoming homeowners? Relatively few (20%) are motivated by the financial aspect. Most don't look at buying property as an investment. They place greater importance on the stability and independence that come with owning a home.
A lack of information on home financing options
According to the study, half of those who want to buy a home would appreciate assistance and more information on financing or calculating the maximum amount they are able to pay. It seems that people just don't know where to turn or how to get started. One in five respondents says that so far they haven't taken any action, and only a third have subscribed to a website to help them search for a home.
